Bags of help for the Mendip Hills

A project aimed at encouraging people to protect and enjoy the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) has reached the ‘Bags of Help’ public vote in Weston and Cheddar Tesco stores.

The project aims to support volunteering opportunities focused on improving the environment of the Mendip Hills and people’s health and wellbeing. The funding would provide better equipment and training for volunteers, and enable individuals with special education needs and/or poor mental health to experience the benefits of the natural environment. 

The project is up against two other worthwhile causes, and shoppers will decide whether the Mendip Hills AONB receives £2,000, £1,000 or £500 depending on the number of votes received.

Tim Haselden, AONB Development Officer said: “We’re really pleased that our project has been shortlisted for funding to help us provide more opportunities for people to protect, connect with and benefit from nature and the beautiful landscape of the Mendips. People can vote for our project until the end of March and we would be really grateful for their support”.

Shoppers can vote for the Mendip Hills AONB project by asking for a blue counter at the checkout in the following Tesco stores:

Bags of Help is Tesco’s local community grant scheme, administered by Groundwork, where the money raised by the carrier bag charge in Tesco stores is being used to fund community projects across the UK.
