Unit welcomes new Landscape Planning Officer

Judith Chubb-Whittle joins the Mendip Hills AONB Unit as our new Landscape Planning Officer. This is a key role as the Unit provides advice to the local planning authorities on applications that may affect the landscape of the designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Judith started by volunteering with the Unit to help the previous planner two years ago. This experience enabled Judith to secure the job of planner with the Somerset branch of CPRE, the Campaign to Protect Rural England. When the position of Landscape Planning Officer came up with the Unit Judith applied and was successful.

Jim Hardcastle, AONB Manager, said, ‘We’re delighted to welcome Judith to the team. It’s such a great story of Judith first volunteering with us to get the experience then securing the job with CPRE to come full circle and get the important role of Landscape Planning Officer with us. Our planning role is vital as the visual quality of this special area can be easily affected by poor development.’

Alongside being a planner Judith has helped create the Neighbourhood Plan in her parish, plus she is a very experienced artist and ultra-marathon runner. Her love of the Mendip Hills and enthusiasm will be a real asset to the area.
