Annual Review for the Mendip Hills AONB Service 2021-22

The annual review for the Mendip Hills AONB Service captures the work of the team during a changing period as we emerged from covid. Volunteering activities started again, projects got underway and the important Farming in Protected Landscapes programme started across all AONBs and National Parks.

The review marks a change in the role of the AONB Service to focus more on nature recovery. The Landscapes Review that recognised AONB teams should be helped to play a role in the future of farming also said that AONB Partnerships should prioritise restoring nature. For some species AONBs are strongholds but many are threatened despite the best effort of organisations on the Partnership. Defra asked that more effort be placed on nature recovery through the core grant for the AONB Service, this review shows where that effort went.

The review also contains a tribute to Nigel Taylor, Chair of the AONB Partnership until his sad death in 2022.
