Mendip Hills AONB Annual Review 2022-2023

Celebrating 50 years of caring together was the aim for the AONB Partnership during 2022-2023 as this was the anniversary of the Mendip Hills being declared an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A landscape that is so special it deserves national protection.

Events were held across the area to strengthen the ecosystem of people, share knowledge and help nature recover.

More funds than ever were distributed to help farmers tackle climate change, improve their land for nature and people and enhance the sense of place. More volunteers gave even more time, nearly 7500 hours of effort channelled back into this nationally important landscape.

Andy Wear, Chair of the AONB Partnership, said ‘It’s fantastic to see so many people get involved with making our beloved Mendip hills better during this 50th anniversary year. It makes me more positive about the future. And in another 50 years will we have helped this nationally important landscape to adapt to climate change? Will we have helped nature recover? Will we see more people with different backgrounds?  I sincerely hope so, but we must all take action to achieve this.’
