The Mendip Hills National Landscape Partnership wants to appoint a representative from the local tourism community to ensure that sector has a voice in future decisions for the area.
The Partnership is a committee that coordinates work across the area to conserve and enhance its natural beauty. The partnership is made up of the three local authorities that the National Landscape spills into plus local, regional and national bodies.

The statutory management plan for the Mendip Hills National Landscape is produced by the Partnership and adopted by the local authorities. The plan is important as all relevant authorities, that includes utility companies and anyone elected into public office, must now further the purposes of the national landscape which are to conserve and enhance the area while raising awareness of its special qualities.
The visitors are very important for the local economy and the Partnership needs a specialist in that sector with good local knowledge to play their part in future projects and decision making. The voluntary role would involve attending meetings 4 times per year, sitting on specialist working groups and responding to questions and queries via email.
David Turner, Chair of the Mendip Hills National Landscape Partnership said, ‘The Mendip Hills is a treasured landscape but it is not a museum. Many local people and businesses rely on the natural beauty of the area to attract visitors, but a strong local economy must be balanced against the impact on wildlife and the path network. We’d like someone to join the Partnership and ensure educated and informed decisions are made regarding the visitor and wider economy whilst keeping the area beautiful for all to enjoy.’
