Spending time outdoors and connecting with nature can greatly support our mental and physical health.
We’ve recently completed the current phase of our Mendip Nature Connections project, delivering activities aimed at connecting people with nature and the countryside to support wellbeing. The project also aimed to tackle some of the barriers that prevent people experiencing the health and wellbeing benefits of the Mendip Hills’ spectacular natural environment.
Activities and locations focussed on connecting local people with nature on green spaces and farms in North Somerset, in or near to the Mendip Hills, based on the University of Derby’s 5 Pathways to Nature Connectedness. During 2024/25, the project delivered five 6-week courses and 30 one-off events and walks, linking with the NHS, farmers and local providers to help connect over 300 participants and volunteers with nature to support their health and wellbeing. Thank you to everyone who has been involved.
Whilst funding limitations mean a pause in our delivery, we still see the Mendip Hills as a vital part of the ‘Natural Health Service’.
