MOMENTS ON MENDIP OUTDOOR PROJECTIONS EXHIBITION

October 22, 2023 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Free

As the autumn light fades, come and immerse yourself in a unique outdoor gallery of images by photographic artist Elizabeth Woodger.  Twelve specially commissioned images – one for each of the Mendip Hills AONB’s special qualities – will be projected onto the rock faces, transforming the lower section of Cheddar Gorge.

A selection of photographs taken by the public, as well as old film of the Gorge, will also be projected onto screens and rockfaces to further highlight the special qualities and to showcase local talent.  The timing of the event and projection locations have been carefully chosen to minimise any impact on bat species using the caves.

The outdoor gallery will be set along a 500 metre stretch of the road through the Gorge (Cliff Road / The Cliffs) and accessible for wheelchairs and buggies.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.  Please wear weather appropriate clothing.

A free, drop in event; no need to book.

Please note that the event will need to be cancelled if heavy rain and/or strong winds.

Start point: Riverside Gardens on Cliff Road (B3135), Cheddar, BS27 3QE (opposite the Christmas Shop).

ST 46341 53848. What3words///pavilions.thinks.throats

The road closure will be in place along the B3135 from La Rocca restaurant (where ‘The Butts’ meets Cliff Road) through to the second bend in the road after Gough’s Cave (The Cliffs). Further details can be found on the Somerset Council website.

Car parks will be open as normal either side of the road closure – in laybys above the closure, and in public car parks below, at the bottom of the Gorge and in the village.  Please contact the Mendip Hills AONB Service ahead of the day for advice on where to park for those with disabilities or mobility issues.

The project has been commissioned by Seed Sedgemoor Arts Council England’s Creative People and Places programme, and is a partnership between the Mendip Hills AONB Service, Somerset Film, The Mendip Society, Somerset Earth Science Centre, and Windrose Rural Media Trust. The project has also been supported by Cheddar Parish Council, Longleat Enterprises Ltd, the National Trust, Somerset Council, the Wells & Mendip Museum, and 18a Productions Limited.
